So that caged nut is so solidly rusted it shattered my craftsman socket extender... Also, the people who manufactured my transmission adapter are morons. They welded nuts to the wrong holes and now my transmission won't fit up to my engine.

Good thing Sears has that lifetime warranty on most Craftman tools!

Well that's a pile of wank.

Could you chop the head off the bolt, and then drill it out?

It's a bit of a faff, but you get the bolt out. Then you can either weld a captive nut onto the body, or just angle grinder the whole cage off and put a bolt straight through with some big washers on either side.

Can you fit a spanner into that space to hold the other end in place while you bolt it back up?
